Rooted In Purpose

What Rooted In Resilience Stands For

Rooted in Resilience is the space I wish had existed years ago, a place where mental health concepts are explained simply, with compassion and depth. It’s grounded in the belief that knowledge should be accessible rather than clinical, and that healing should feel human, not distant.

Every workbook, reflection prompt and resource is designed with care and trauma-informed insight: blending evidence with empathy and theory with lived experience. This approach reflects what I value most: progress not perfection. Healing isn’t a straight line, and growth doesn’t need to look polished to be meaningful.

My hope is that these resources help people understand themselves with more kindness, feel less alone in their struggles, and start to build trust in their own capacity to adapt and recover.

Shaped by Experience

Rooted in Resilience wasn’t born from one defining moment, but the result of many.

The experiences, challenges and life lesson has shaped who I am and strengthened my determination to share what I’ve learnt, so others don’t have to face challenges without guidance.

Once I left school I studied Therapeutic Radiography, this highlighted the importance of early identification and prevention, to maximise health outcomes and kickstarted a life-long passion for health improvement. I fell pregnant with my eldest child during this course and qualified with BSc Applied Health Studies.

I began working within a Health Visiting department in April 2020, just as the pandemic took full effect. This ignited my passion for the link between child development and how this is impacted by adverse childhood experiences and socioeconomic determinants of health.

Recognising this I began studying Mental Health Nursing in 2021, as this best aligned with my goal of specialising in this area.

Whilst studying, I fell pregnant with my second child, during this pregnancy a dormant genetic condition decided to awaken. I ended up being diagnosed with macrodactyly (congenital) and developed a fibrolipomatous hamartoma in each of my impacted fingers in my dominant hand. Navigating these changes and adapting to life with a new born was really challenging and I isolated myself. I was then diagnosed with post natal depression at about 6 months post-partum and suffered through until reaching my crisis point just over a year post-partum.

Rooted in Resilience was born from the vision of readily accessible evidence-informed, compassionate resources, that help people access guidance and understanding before they reach crisis point.

Looking Ahead

This website is only the beginning. My vision is to see it grow into a evolving collection of wellbeing tools, reflective workbooks and accessible education that bridges the gap between mental health knowledge and everyday life.

Over time, this project will evolve into a wider community, one that challenges stigma, advocates for equity and helps how we talk about mental health in Scotland.

For now, it starts here: small steps, honest reflection and a shared belief that we are all capable of growth.

Thank you for being here, and for taking a moment to pause, reflect and reconnect: that’s where resilience begins!
